Project Agapé

These began when I was taking Mike Johnson to the chemo clinic in Portland, Oregon. Upon entering the clinic the first time, the people there were dismal and quiet, as if they were at a funeral home waiting for their loved ones to die. God's Spirit nudged me to step outside my zone of comfort and engage with people in different ways. Despite my fears, I didn't have to do much to alter their perspectives. I learned that simple acknowledgement of the struggles people go through was enough to give them hope again.

I created the cards below to hand out to people. It was amazing how they had the power to change the atmosphere. I had made two (the sunshine and heart) before noting that the receptionist at the front desk seemed like she needed one too. But Holy Spirit hinted that this one need to be blue in color. I went to my office and made the one with the blue butterfly. Then upon handing it to her the following day, she paused for the longest time before asking me how I knew her favorite color was blue! From there, the cards grew in inspiration.
